A man dies, leaving three debts 100, 200 and 300, a sum more than his estate 100. How to divide the estate among the creditors? At first glance, the accumulated state should be distributed equally among creditors or in proportion to debt amounts. However, the Talmud gives another answer. Moreover, there is an answer, but there is no solution! In the lesson, we solve this puzzle. We will understand how to divide the state of the deceased according to the Talmud, compare the Talmudic approach with the approach proposed in modern game theory, and then see how this is related to the law of communicating vessels. Based on research by Nobel prize winner Robert Aumann. Session presented at Limuds in Eilat and Moscow.
